Trellises

A vine-covered trellis can bring you all the privacy and shade benefits of a tree in just half a growing season rather than a whole decade. The secret is choosing the right vines.

While most perennial vines grow rather quickly, annuals like morning glory will not begin providing shade until mid to late summer. Combining perennials and annuals usually provides the best results.

To start a vine up a trellis, simply wind its outside branches loosely around the trellis frame. This will allow the vine to choose its preferred growing direction. If necessary, branches can be loosely tied to the trellis for support.

Grapes, hardy kiwi, rose, clematis and wisteria are all good vines to work with. Give us a call today for more information.
